Postseason, Inc. Partners with University of New Orleans Women's Indoor Volleyball for Comprehensive Athlete Development
New Orleans, LA – April 8th, 2024 – Postseason, Inc., an innovative ed-tech startup at the forefront of supporting athletes in their transition into life after sports, is excited to announce a strategic partnership with the University of New Orleans Women's Indoor Volleyball team. This collaboration will introduce the team to Postseason's pilot course, the Athlete Purpose Playbook (APP), as part of the Spring 2024 Cohort, marking a significant milestone in athlete development and empowerment.
Founded with the vision of creating a physical and digital community exclusively for athletes, Postseason, Inc. is set on building the first peer-to-peer network that champions athletes' personal and professional growth, facilitating meaningful connections beyond the competitive realm of sports. Through the APP program, Postseason leverages this unique ecosystem, offering access to educational content, mentorship, wellness resources, and transformational experiences, designed to guide athletes toward a successful and fulfilling life after sports.
At the helm of Postseason, Inc.'s initiative is Founder/CEO, Jelani Jenkins, a retired NFL athlete, and certified performance and mindset coach, and Co-Founder/CGO, Frances Garcia, a former Division 1 volleyball player with a deep background in growth marketing and brand strategy. Their collective expertise forms the foundation of the APP program, aimed at mirroring the support system athletes have come to rely on within their sports organizations and guiding them through their transition into the next phase of their lives.
The University of New Orleans Women's Indoor Volleyball team’s engagement with the APP program highlights a mutual commitment to competitive excellence and athletes' academic, mental, and socio-cultural development. Coach Ashley Preston’s philosophy emphasizes developing athletes as whole individuals, focusing on creating a nurturing environment beyond physical training to include academic success and mental health.
Creating Culture and Nurturing Growth Beyond Volleyball
Coach Preston's philosophy extends far beyond volleyball tactics and physical training. At an early age in the head coach position, she believes in the profound impact of nurturing athletes holistically, focusing on academic excellence, mental well-being, and cultural awareness. "As a head coach, my platform is centered around 'creating culture.' It's crucial that my athletes not only perform at a high level competitively but also excel academically and mentally," said Coach Preston.
This year, the Privateers embarked on educational trips to Atlanta and Louisville, visiting landmarks such as the Martin Luther King Jr. Historical Park and the Muhammad Ali Center. These visits offered the athletes invaluable insights into the legacies of significant historical figures and the enduring impact of their contributions. Assistant Coach Mauri Carver and athletes like Lani Alleman and Micah Hall expressed deep appreciation for these experiences, highlighting the transformative effect of learning from diverse perspectives and the inspiring stories of resilience and achievement. "Supporting female athletes holds a special importance in the evolving landscape of sports. Our collaboration with the University of New Orleans Women's Indoor Volleyball team underscores our commitment to this cause. The APP program is more than a course; it's a movement towards empowering athletes to master the next chapters of their lives with confidence," remarked Jelani Jenkins.
Frances Garcia shared her enthusiasm, stating, "Launching the APP program with the University of New Orleans Women's Indoor Volleyball team is a personal highlight for me. As a former women's volleyball player and person of color, I understand the unique challenges and opportunities that lie ahead for these athletes. It is a top priority for Postseason to empower these athletes and ensure their journey beyond sports is met with authenticity, support, growth, and lasting connections.”
This partnership signals a significant expansion for Postseason, Inc., as it plans to extend its athlete-led course offerings to include Mental Health, STEM, Production, Non-Profit Management, Entrepreneurship, and beyond. Targeted for Fall 2024, the initiative is designed to cater to a broader athlete base, adopting a holistic approach to career development post-sports. Leveraging the distinct experiences and leadership capabilities of ex-athletes, Postseason commits to providing athletes with essential tools for navigating successful transitions across various industries or stages of their lives, guaranteeing comprehensive success.
For universities looking to participate in this limited-time pilot, Postseason offers three flexible course models: a self-paced course on its platform, live virtual workshops, and in-person workshops. Aimed at further expansion in Q2/Q3 of 2024, the program anticipates including more courses as mentioned above to widen its reach and impact.
