NFL Vet & CEO, Jelani Jenkins, and Postseason’s Vision Recognized as Top Five Finalist at Startup Showdown
LOS ANGELES –– Since launching its online athlete empowerment platform in 2021, Postseason has capitalized on its growing digital and physical community. Led by NFL Veteran and CEO/Founder, Jelani Jenkins, Postseason’s hard work and vision has earned it a top five spot in the Startup Showdown at the LA Sports Innovation Conference on November 9 held at the YouTube Theater at SoFi Stadium.
“I have been visualizing this moment for the last two years,” Jenkins said. “Taking the stage, being in front of a major audience, sharing a vision that has absolutely consumed me, and shining a light on a problem that has haunted the sports world for generations. This is just confirmation that the world is ready, that we're moving in the right direction, and that we're covered.”
Positioning the physical and digital community to be the first of its kind. Postseason’s web-based and mobile application aims to create the first peer-to-peer network that is exclusively for former athletes to find purpose, growth, and nurture meaningful relationships beyond sports.
“Thank you so much for all your participation in Startup Showdown this far,” said a correspondence from the LA Sports Organization via email. “We’ve been extremely impressed with your vision for Postseason and the team remains excited about the potential of what you are building. We are pleased to invite you to be a finalist in Startup Showdown, and are excited for you to present to our judges and the public!”
The LA Sports Innovation Conference is an annual conference designed to engage industry’s sports business leaders on the emerging trends and cutting-edge innovations in the sports industry. The inaugural gathering will highlight and embody the diversity, talent and passion that has built Los Angeles into one of the world’s most extraordinary places for sports.
After speaking to hundreds of elite athletes about their transition out of sports, Postseason has identified three major problems: Isolation, Loss of Support, and Loss of Competition. Its platform aims to recreate the support system that exists within elite athletic organizations to help facilitate a seamless transition to the next phase of life.
“As a former D1 volleyball player, I am grateful for the opportunity to have been called to serve alongside Jelani and the rest of our Postseason team.” said Posteason’s Chief Growth Officer Frances Garcia. “To be able to help build something that is dedicated to former elite athletes at all levels and stages of their post athletic careers is a dream. Garcia adds, “As the sports world celebrated the 50th year of Title IX back in June, we know that we have a role to play in increasing opportunities for women on and off the field. With Postseason getting this level of exposure, and having the opportunity to be presented in front of the LA Startup Showdown panel, is going to help us increase our impact in this space.”
Welcome and Introductions begin at 4:45 pm, Finalist Pitches will take place from 5-5:55 pm, and the Startup Showdown winner will be announced between 6:05 and 6:15 pm.
“I’m incredibly proud and grateful for this team,” Jenkins said. “We've been through so many ups and downs, but we continue to persevere. We've all made so many sacrifices because we love what we do and we're obsessed with providing the best solution possible for our athletes.”
*Postseason CEO Jelani Jenkins will be presenting at EnableHealth's HealthSportsTech Summit at Well by HLTH at the Venetian in Las Vegas on November 16, 2022.
